Dear Families,

It is hard to believe we have already been in school for more than three months. It has been a busy school year so far, and we appreciate everything you’ve done as true partners in your children’s education.

I have been delighted by the turnout for my monthly "Coffee & Conversation" meetings.  I truly enjoy the opportunity to meet with you in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss topics which affect our children.  

If you haven't joined us yet, I encourage you to put these dates on your calendars.

PS196 Goal Highlights for 2011-2012

• We are integrating more rigorous, open-ended tasks into our math curriculum, and continuing to align that curriculum with the Common Core Learning Standards.
• We are using Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching as the foundation through which to implement instructional best practices, aligned with the Common Core standards.
• We are employing the latest technology skills to enhance the curriculum and ensure our students are on their way to being college and career ready.
• We are targeting our high scoring students on the New York State English Language Arts exams through rigorous work, to help them maintain or improve their standing.
• We are widening and expanding communication between our school and families, in the areas of student achievement/successes, curriculum and community services.
