OPENING
In attendance were the PA parents and the PA Exec. Board -Val Weintraub (President), Pepa Tanousis (Vice- President), Liz Gordon (Treasurer), and Lisa Goldenberg (Secretary), Ms. Migliano (Principal), and Ellen Maurer (Parent Coordinator).
Pepa Tanousis opened the meeting. The minutes from Dec. 2009 were reviewed and accepted by Jodi Freed and seconded by Dana Feuerstein.
Val Weintraub- Haiti Relief Collection
Val put forth a vote to collect funds for Haiti relief collection. Donations will be collected for the next 2 weeks and then sent to the American Red Cross. Casey started off our collection with $2.70!! Cash and checks will be accepted. Checks may be written directly to the American Red Cross individually for a tax write off.
Ms. Migliano- Principal
The Quality Review will be coming up on Jan. 25-26, 2010. Superintendent, Jeanette Reid will be conducting the review. On the first day, she will meet with Ms. Migliano and a group of students. Students will be chosen by Ms. Reid through classroom observations and the Aris link. The second day, she will be meeting with parents. She will also be looking at and reviewing student writing portfolios, book/reading logs, and other classroom work. Ms. Reid will debrief Ms. Migliano for about an hour after the review is completed. The Quality Review will be made public to the parents upon completion. 2 years ago our school’s quality rating was Well Developed.
Sunshine Fund
Mina Petromanilakis of the school’s kitchen staff had a death in the family. Her Husband, Frank Petromanilakis passed away. The Sunshine Fund will put together a donation of $25 worth of books for our library. A card with children’s artwork will also go to the family.
SLT Elections

SLT is looking to fill the 2 spot and add an alternate in case someone needs to drop out.
Dennis Mannarino- Be Cool at Afterschool
Dennis gave us an explanation of the 2009-2010 Be Cool at Afterschool budget. The total income thus far is $167,583.05. The total expenses are $103,733.58. This leaves a difference of $63,849.47. Dennis also noted that the income for Fall ’09 was higher than Fall ’08.
-The new semester will start 2/01/10.
-After School collected $553.56 for the campaign for Heal Africa/Global Giving so far
-Ms. Ginzberg’s reading and writing workshop is in full swing. Participants include:
24 third grade students
14 fourth grade students
11 fifth grade students
-Wacky Fun Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, will include Wacky fun bingo and cupcake decorating. -Valentine Cookie and Card decorating class will be Feb. 10, 2010.
Liz Gordon- Treasurer
The monthly financial report indicates that the total PA and BCAS income as $5,738.00. The total expenses are $4,548.48. The ending balance of both accounts is $24,455.29.
Thank you to the 5th grade for raising tons of money. They will also be sponsoring candy grams for Valentine’s Day.
The Exec. Board is still waiting for the breakdown for the Theater Arts Program from Ms. Migliano. We hope to have more information for the next PA meeting. The money raised will continue to be held specifically for theater arts.
$600 is also being held for the Bench for Ms. Singh. The bench has still not been purchased.
Ms. Chocolate income has been coming in over the past 2 months. A complete breakdown will be given at next months meeting.

The committee is planning fun events for the students in the upcoming months.

Fri., March 12, 2010- Square Dance (grades 3-5)
-American food (hot dogs, corn, pie contest)
-Child made decorations
-No staff expense
Motion for $2,500 budget for square dance is proposed.
Jeni Byers motions to approve budget for dance- $2,500. Brenda Zuckerman seconds. The majority approves budget.
April 2010- Book Club
Membership Committee Raffle: Laura Protenza won 2 free tutoring sessions w/ Deborah Ross.
Next month’s raffle: Free haircut by Redd at the Mark Garrison Salon.
