OPENING

In attendance were the PA Parents, the PA Exec. Board (Val Weintraub, Liz Gordon, and Lisa Goldenberg), Ms. Migliano (Principal), and Ellen Maurer (Parent Coordinator).

Val Weintraub opened the meeting. The minutes from the Sept.’09 were reviewed and accepted by Nancy Bilyeau and seconded by Jane Lin.

MS. MIGLIANO

Ms. Migliano is happy to see another great turn out and thrilled to see so many parents attending the Just Right For Me Books workshop, prior to the PA meeting. The next workshop coming up will be an Assessment Workshop for older students.

A unit of study board is on display in the main lobby. This will provide information for parents. There is also a data board that shows grade levels using bar graphs. Emily Ades advised that this information can also be put on the website.

The Kindergarten Center is coming along nicely. We are still looking for donations to spruce it up. It needs tables and folding chairs.

The nurse will identify which children may not be eligible.

Ellen is always available if any parents have any questions.

Sunshine Fund- Emily Ades

The fund would provide teachers, administrators, PA Executive Board members, and full-time school staff (secretarial, custodial, and school aides) with acknowledgements for milestones in their lives.

These milestones would include: Birth/adoption of a child, or 1st grandchild, wedding, death of a spouse/partner, parent or child, retirement, hospitalization or extended illness

The gift for a baby, 1st grandchild, retirement, wedding, or illness would be a $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Nobles.

In the event of a sympathy expression – a card would be sent acknowledging a donation to the school library for $25 worth of books with a placard “In Memory of…” The placards can be printed in advance as well as acknowledgement cards which should be designed by a student.

The Sunshine Fund has already honored the life of teacher Ms. Singh with a bench. The bench has not been placed at our school yet but there is a plaque for Ms. Singh hanging outside Ms. Migliano’s office until a permanent home is found after construction completion.

Miscellaneous

Author Visit

Ms. Pastiner has requested an author visit. The visit was approved by Chris Rupp and seconded by Stacey Neeman. 23 people voted for author visit.

Open Schools/ Staff development

It was discussed that food (lunch & breakfast) would be provided for staff and teachers. It was decided that the PA would provide one luncheon with the cost being approx. $600. The motion was made by Jodi Freed and seconded by Amy Weber. Majority voted in favor of the luncheon.

Be Cool At After School

Questions arose regarding PS 303 and there after school program difficulties. Emily Ades assured us that due to start-up issues and the PS 303 PTA Association not functioning according to the Chancellors Regulations, the program has been cancelled. This will not affect our after school program at all.

Membership Committee Raffle- 2 Cell phones were won.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:44pm.

Meeting minutes respectfully submitted by Lisa Goldenberg
