Class Parent / Grade Leader
September, 2007
Dear Parent,
We are so glad you have volunteered to help your child’s class
and teacher this year. Class Parents act as liaisons between the
teachers and parents and are instrumental in supporting the
teachers with class parties, trips and during parent teacher
conferences. Additionally you are responsible for coordinating
the giving of class gifts for the teacher.
We try to have two class parents for every class.
Many class parents have wondered how parents have done things in
the past. We held a short orientation meeting but for those who
were unable to attend, we have collected sample letters and
forms that you may find useful as you take on your new or
continuing role. This Class Parent Information Packet has been
created to help parents streamline their efforts.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at
ecozangi@pa196.org or
the Grade Leader for your child’s grade. A list of Grade Leaders
and their email addresses is listed in the packet as well.
We have a great school because of your willingness to get
involved.
Thank you for volunteering,
Ellen Cozangi
VP Grade Leaders & Class Parents
Class Parent
Responsibilities
1. Door coverage
of the November and March
Parent/Teacher conferences. You need to inform the Grade
Leader at least one week prior to conference as to who is
doing afternoon conference and evening conference.
2.
Teacher gift collections:
Holiday ($10.00 suggested
amount per student).
End of year ($10.00 suggested amount per student).
Gift Certificates are recommended for both.
Class play flowers ($2.00 per student).
There must be THREE
different collections unless the class play is within one
month of your gift collection. It is wise to collect Holiday
gift money starting with the November conferences. All gift
collections are strictly voluntary. $10.00 is merely
suggested; parents, if they choose to contribute can give any
amount they feel comfortable giving.
You may collect this money either in person, by phone or
through a note home in a SEALED envelope handed to each child
(not through the teacher).
3.
Class Parties:
This should be organized per
requests from your teacher. Consult with the teacher prior to
planning a party. You cannot collect money for the party, but
you may assign various parents to send in items (food, drinks,
cups, plates, etc). HONOR THE WISHES OF THE TEACHER!
GOODY BAGS are not allowed at parties in the school.
This is a rule established by Mrs. Hughes. Let your parents
know of this rule if they plan to hold a Birthday party in
class.
4.
Volunteer:
You are expected to volunteer
at school during fundraisers (picture day, annual book sale,
mother’s/father’s day sale) as well as during school events
(Halloween party, Spring Dance, International Night, etc).
Please ensure that you sign up to help out during these
important school activities.
