Minutes – Executive Board Meeting
Tuesday, February 26, 2008


There was a motion made by Shelley Weintraub to accept last months’ minutes. Jackie Astacio seconded the motion. The minutes were accepted.

Dennis Mannarino, Director of “Be Cool At After School” reported that:

  • 73 children attended Wacky Fun Kids Night Out and that the proceeds ($1460.00 minus expenses) will benefit 5th grade activities.

  • 29 extra children participated in the Valentines Jewelry Project

  • There was one birthday party this month and 27 children attended.

  • Wacky Fun Friday is postponed to next Friday because the Hoop Wizard had to reschedule.

  • The new semester starts March 3rd.

  • The film club will show self-produced movies to the After school Program this Friday.

  • Wacky Fun Mornings are underway and are from 7:15-8:15. There is a charge of $7.00 if the program is needed on a one-time basis.

Mrs. Hughes requested that the PA provide free babysitting during Parent –Teacher Conferences. It was voted and agreed upon that a notice will go out to notify parents that baby-sitting will be available to school-aged children during the conferences.

The After school Program would like to use funds to provide lunch for the teachers on the Conference day. It was voted on and unanimously passed that funds will be used for this purpose.

Lisa Feinstein, Co-President addressed the issue of parent volunteers in the lunchroom.

She reported that parent volunteers are expected to circulate the lunchroom, be helpful with the kitchen staff, assist with snack distribution, garbage pick-up, etc. Volunteers can
return to the lunchroom on February 27th.

Shari Bennett and Emily Ades volunteered to form a committee for feedback and observations to improve the lunchroom.

Lisa Feinstein also proposed a vote to make a donation to “Eric’s Memorial Bench Fund”, a charity remembering a former P.S. 196 student. 16 members were in favor, 2 were opposed. The Executive Board will investigate the feasibility of making a
substantial donation from the PA, and will re-visit at next month’s meeting.

Jackie Astacio, Chairperson Fundraising Committee, announced that:

  • Phone raiser and toner earned $101.00. The two classes who donated the most will be rewarded (Mrs. Golub and Mrs.Levin’s classes)

  • Candy Sale envelopes are due.

  • Book Fair Volunteers are needed. Please contact Jackie or Pamela Montes.

  • Art To Remember Fundraiser is coming soon.

  • Boston Market Fundraiser is in April.

Nancy Feldman, Chairperson Programming Committee, discussed the outdoor carnival scheduled for May 10th.

Christine Rupp submitted and reviewed the treasurer’s report. Please see attached.

Maria Romero, Co-President encouraged parent participation and asked if there were any other concerns. Shoshanna Cleary expressed concern about the lack of soap and towels in
the restrooms. The Parents Association will further investigate ways to amend this issue.

Emily Ades, CEC Member, announced the Community Education Meeting would be on March 12th at 7PM. P.S. 3; the new ECC will be discussed at the meeting.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM
